Sailing destination the ABC Islands

The ABC Islands—Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao—offer a perfect mix of adventure, natural beauty, and excellent services for sailors. Whether you’re seeking world-class diving, protected anchorages, or easy access to modern conveniences.

Bonaire: Crystal Clear Waters and Incredible Reefs

One of the biggest attractions in Bonaire is the stunningly clear water surrounding the mooring field. Right behind your boat, you’ll find pristine reefs starting at about 20 feet and dropping to 80 feet, making this one of the best diving locations in the Caribbean. The visibility rivals that of the Bahamas and Caicos, offering an unforgettable underwater experience. The town is within easy walking distance, providing access to grocery stores, restaurants, and Budget Marine for any boating needs. The mooring field is exposed to westerly winds, but when conditions shift, the marina is available to assist.

Klein Curaçao: A Perfect Overnight Stop

Between Bonaire and Curaçao lies Klein Curaçao, an uninhabited island with a long sandy beach and crystal-clear waters. If you arrive in the afternoon, you’ll have the anchorage to yourself once the day charters head back to Curaçao. It’s a fantastic place to spend the night, offering peace and solitude before continuing to Curaçao.

Curaçao: Sheltered Anchorages and Full Services

Spanish Waters is one of the most protected anchorages in the Caribbean, making it a favorite among cruisers. With a vibrant sailing community and plenty of activities, it’s an excellent base for exploring the island. If you have the chance, apply for a permit to anchor in Fuik Baai, a beautiful and quiet spot for a weekend or longer.

Curaçao offers everything a visiting yacht could need, with big, modern supermarkets where you can find just about anything. Marine services are top-notch, with Budget Marine, Seru Boca Marine, Curaçao Marine, and The View Marina (opening in 2025) all providing essential services, repairs, and facilities for yachts.

Aruba: A Pleasant Surprise for Cruisers

Despite its reputation as a major tourist destination, Aruba is surprisingly comfortable for sailors. With well-developed marinas, easy access to provisioning, and plenty of attractions, it’s a great stopover before heading further into the Caribbean, Colombia and Panama.

Easy Travel Connections

All three islands have daily flights to and from the USA, Europe, and Central America, making crew changes or travel logistics simple.
